Why do I need a dance floor?
This is the question we get asked all the time when we are talking about marquee events. There is an assumption that people can dance anywhere – why go to the expense of hiring a marquee dance floor? We explain why….
Marquees are generally sited on grass and in the Summer months we will generally recommend just laying hard-wearing carpet over a plastic groundsheet. This works perfectly for people to walk on but dancing is a different matter. The last thing you want is for guests (especially after a drink or two) to find a small dip or catch a heel in the carpet. A dance floor helps eliminate this risk, providing a sound, solid surface for people to dance on.
A dance floor in a marquee also provides a focus for the event. We usually advise lighting the dance floor area differently to the rest of the marquee, for example with fairy lights in the ivory roof linings, starlit black roof linings, colour change lights around the walls or for a real nightclub effect, sound-to-light spotlights. For a wedding, the dance floor end of the marquee can be hidden by a reveal curtain which is drawn back when the evening celebrations begin.
Our standard marquee dance floors are made up of wooden panels with a metal edging strip all round the perimeter. We think this works best in a marquee but we can supply black and white dance floors, parquet dance floors and even white dance floors if needed.

We will then recommend a size for you. We can draw up a plan of your marquee showing you exactly how much space will be taken up by the dance floor and how the marquee can be laid out to best effect.
