With 250+ guests to accommodate, we worked over two days in heatwave conditions to install a gorgeous Dorset wedding marquee.
Working at the lovely Dorset wedding venue, Shillingstone House for the first time, we installed a 12m x 27m lined marquee with dance floor, carpet, lighting and furniture.
Marquee lighting
The couple chose paper lanterns in all white, which looked stunning in this large marquee. Our paper lanterns are on a wiring ‘loom’ that sits above the roof linings, with just the light pendants hanging down. We then attach the paper lanterns in a seemingly random pattern but it does actually take a lot more thought than it might sound!
Our largest lanterns are 30″ diameter and the smallest, 12″ diameter. In a marquee with a high roof, we always advise that you need large, bold decorations. We only stock white lanterns but for anyone wanting a splash of colour, we can point them to a supplier that can provide a huge range of colours in all sizes. Once purchased, we can hang them and combine with the white if required.
Window walls
At one end of the marquee we included panoramic window walls. These totally clear walls have the advantage of being able to be quickly and easily rolled up to open up the marquee. Where there is a view to be enjoyed, we would always recommend including panoramic windows.
Flooring
For this particular Dorset wedding marquee, we laid charcoal carpet over groundsheet. our hard-wearing grey carpet is very forgiving and won’t show mud or marks (always good if the weather isn’t that kind). We also think that the darker colour provides an excellent contrast with the ivory pleated marquee linings and provides the perfect ‘blank canvas’ for your furniture and decorations.
