Some of our favourite wedding marquees have been in private gardens. Although the thought of organising everything from scratch can be quite daunting, having your wedding at home means that you have total control over every element.
Here’s our five most important considerations when planning a garden wedding marquee
Space
It’s the obvious place to start…work out how much available space you have in your garden. Take care to measure from the narrowest place and think about levels; marquees work much better on (largely) level surfaces. Although you can have some of the marquee on patio and some on grass and you can even incorporate some of the garden features into the marquee – we have had all sorts, including trees, rose trellis, hot tubs and ponds successfully brought into the marquee space.
We will always come and measure up when we conduct our site meeting, so if you aren’t sure what is possible we can advise!
Layout
It isn’t often that a garden is big enough for one very large marquee. It is therefore better to consider the flow of your wedding and look at the possibility of creating smaller areas. Maybe one marquee for the wedding breakfast but another to act as a bar or a dancing area for example. We can create L-shaped structures or combine two different size marquees to accommodate a narrowing garden. There are lots of ways to use the space and we can help make sure that it all works for you.
Toilets
If you don’t want people wandering in and out of your home to use the toilet, you may want to consider hiring in portable loos. we can supply a luxury loo trailer with several cubicles and urinals, or simple festival style cubicles, The choice is largely limited by the space available. We have seen toilet trailers parked in driveways or to the side of the house, wherever they can be squeezed in and we can connect power to them.
Catering
The decision here is whether you want caterers to use your home kitchen or whether they will provide their own under cover area (which will need space made available in the garden) or they will need a small marquee erected for them. We are happy to chat through any issues directly with your caterers if needed.
Parking
Space for guests’ cars needs to be factored in. Often neighbours are happy to help and let people park on their drives. Maybe there’s a field or an area nearby that could temporarily become a parking area or a local car park that your visitors can be directed to.
